The men’s lacrosse team at the University of Notre Dame certainly portrayed character, culture, and community, the three pillars which the program was built upon, during the Fourth Annual Playing for Peace Clinic on September 24, 2015. The team traveled to Chicago to meet young athletes participating in O.W.L.S. Lacrosse, the organization co-hosting the free instructional clinic. The fall event, Playing for Peace, brings together college players, coaches, and community members for a positive impact in inner-city schools and athletes living in low-income communities.

Andrew Wirth, best known as the CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings located in Olympic Valley, California, possesses a lot more than what meets the eye. With a background as a ranger for the Rocky Mountain National Parks and San Pedro Parks Wilderness Area, it was simply natural for him to fall into career paths with outdoor aspects such as Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation and development of the Mountain Village Partnership.

After working at Steamboat for more than 20 years, he was appointed President of the Squaw Valley resort and planned a $70 million revamp of the companies base facilities, mountain design, and common areas. This much-needed upgrade moved Squaw Valley’s customer service satisfaction from the lower 20 percent of ski resorts all the way to the top 20 percent within a year.

Andy Wirth is highly known for his service within the community and is a top contributor to environmental organizations including Girls on the Run, The McConkey Foundation, the Humane Society of Tahoe Truckee and the Tahoe Truckee Community House. In 2012 he was awarded the Chairman’s Outstanding Service Award as well as a spot on the HSMAI Top 25 Minds in Hospitality list. Additionally, Wirth received the Community Five Award after being recognized as Citizen of the Year by Disabled Sports USA.

Wirth co-founded the Wounded Warrior Support, an Ironman team that was created after he had a close encounter with a near-fatal skydiving accident. This team raises funds for the Navy SEAL Foundation and supports team members who are a part of the special operations as well as their family members after they return home.

Most recently, Wirth stated his stance on the Clean Power Plan in an op-ed published in the Reno Gazette-Journal in September 2015. The plan is designed to move our country towards clean and renewable energy, with the aim towards replacing dirty coal power. Wirth elaborated on the transition that the economy is making towards becoming more sustainable, healthy, and diverse.
